Formerly of the US Army Combat Technology Research Unit. At the top of his class in both practical combat skill and book learning, he's the main test pilot for the XFJ Joint US-Japan TSF Development Project, and serves as a member of the project’s Argus Test Flight. His father is Japanese and his mother is American, but he grew up entirely in America and never visited Japan. When he was young, political friction between Japan and America made him the subject of anti-Japanese discrimination. He grew up to hate Japan, and develop a cold attitude that keeps others at bay. Argus often refer to him as "Top Gun".

Despite his lack of actual combat experience as a 2nd Lieutenant of the US Army, Yuuya is extremely skilled; his role as a test pilot means that he has gained a wealth of experience in putting TSF through their paces and pushing them to their limit, he was viewed as top at every level as a pilot, though his personality left much to be desired, with arrogance and cold attitude towards others caused some to ostracize him and others to ignore him. These were the impetus for the bitter rivalry he has with Leon.
