Originating from Production I.G. Currently freelance, but works mainly on WIT Studio's projects.
While being an accomplished animator on Guilty Crown and Sengoku Basara, he gained notoriety as the action animation director for Attack on Titan. Imai, together with Director Tetsurou Araki and CG Director Shuuhei Yabuta, conceptualized how Attack on Titan's ODM gear should move in animation and Imai himself storyboarded and animated many of the action setpieces.
Married to Hisako Akagi.
