After graduating from the Department of Industrial Chemistry at Miyakonojo Technical College he joined Topcraft (later Studio Ghibli), where he partook in the production of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Afterwards he turned to CM production and joined Studio Arrow and later became freelance. Today he collaborates often with Studio 4°C, working on many of their projects as animator, character designer and director.
