Genichirou Abe is one of studio SHAFT's best and most respected animators being involved on nearly every major SHAFT production and even being included among the episode 15 Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann all-star staff.
Abe's animation is characteristically layered and dense, and the way he draws hair, skin, and clothing with ruffles warrants comparison to Hironori Tanaka, who collaborated on Bakemonogatari. Many of his cuts have the Ohira wobble. Abe has said he enjoys doing background animation and integrates it into many of his scenes.
