In 1978, after graduating from Osaka Designers' College, he joined Anime R. There he was a part of Studio 1, led by Moriyasu Taniguchi. At this time Hiroyuki Okiura and Hiroshi Ousaka were also a part of the studio. He was also one of the many animators influenced by Yoshinori Kanada, and had emerged as an outstanding action animator among the Kanada followers of the time.
He went freelance in 1989, and has since mostly done contractual work with OLM.
Married to fellow animator Mizue Ogawa.
